What is Know Your EdTech?
Know Your EdTech is a searchable repository of EdTech apps and solutions used primarily by families with young children and Early Childhood Centres in Australia. It is curated by researchers from the ARC Centre of Excellence for the Digital Child and is meant to inform parents, educators and the general public about the EdTech industry. Our repository currently contains more than 200 products which can be compared on a range of features, such as the presence of in-app purchases and third party data sharing. This tool was developed by a group of researchers from the ARC Centre of Excellence for the Digital Child. The work was led by Professor Julian Sefton-Green, Dr Chris Zomer, Melissa De La Cruz, Dr Andy Zhao, all based at Deakin University, and Dr Rebecca Ng at the University of Wollongong. A number of members of the Centre for the Digital Child have contributed to this project at various stages.
The information of edtech products and companies was collected between July and October 2025. The website was developed and published in 2026.
The tool is not about evaluating the educational efficacy of edtech products. Although this is an important aspect to consider when making decisions around what edtech to use or purchase, we want to direct people’s attention to some of the more ‘hidden’ aspects of edtech, namely the companies, investors and privacy practices behind edtech products.
While we have made every effort to ensure the accuracy of information presented in this tool, we acknowledge the possibility of errors. Also, the edtech sector changes fast so information may have been outdated when you access it. If you see information incorrect or out-dated, please report it to [email protected].
The tool includes information about over 200 edtech products that are available to young children, their families and educators in Australia. There are so many apps available that we cannot include all of them. Also, it is common practice in the industry to regularly update the names of apps (for instance by adding more keywords in the title). If you did not see information about an app and would like to see it included in this tool, please email [email protected].
